Beagle Dog

Beagle Dog information is readily available on lots of IT dog breed information resources, containing tips and articles on the breed’s past and present, health problems, prospects and FAQs. Because Beagles are popular among people from all walks of life around the world, these resources enjoy great demand. As a rule, Beagle fanciers look for written breed standards in order to make sure the dogs they are about to buy match the requirements outlined in the standard.

The dog’s endearing and gentle temperament and nice appearance make people fall in for this breed at first glance. Beagle Dogs are less suspicious of strangers than many other dogs, and they express love to all family members, not being one-person dogs. Beagles can play with other dogs, and this trait has been cultivated for centuries as these dogs were trained and bred to hunt in packs. For this reason, Beagles view their families as their own “packs” and cannot do without interaction.

Beagles are very active dogs. They are much more vivacious than Basset Hounds, and they enjoy daily rigorous exercise. Beagle Dogs cannot stand loneliness, and may become extremely noisy or destructive if left alone. These dogs are not recommended for those who cannot send most of the daytime with them. However, this can be eased by adding another Beagle to the household. Well socialized Beagles can also get along with other pets, but many dogs may use their hunting instincts on them.

Beagles are but the finest companions for children imaginable, first because they are naturally friendly, and, second, because only a child can give this dog such a great chance to play its head off. Beagle Dogs have a superb sense of smell and tend to follow scents; therefore, it is not recommended to permit children to walk Beagles outside the residence without supervision. Beagles should only be walked on a leash, in order to prevent escape. The dog’s keen nose is one of the main reasons why there are so many stray Beagles in the streets. Beagles pick up scents very easily, and in following them, some dogs become fully oblivious to whatever happens around them, including their owners’ commands. The only way to avoid this problem is to thoroughly train them to respond to commands no matter what.

Beagles come in any hound color, including white-and-red bi-color and white-and-red-and-black tri-color. There are also bluetick and mottled color patterns typical of Beagles. These dogs are smaller than Foxhounds, their direct ancestors, and have a different countenance. Modern Beagle Dogs (including those accepted in Europe) measure 13-16 inches high at the shoulder, but the American Kennel Club does not recognize dogs exceeding 16 inches high at the withers.
