Beagles - Reasons for Abandoning

Unfortunately, many Beagles end up in a rescue yearly. Why does this happen and what can be done about it? The answer is both hard and simple. Irresponsible breeding and owning seem to be the major aspect that contributes to great numbers of abandoned Beagles. Though the breed is generally healthy, it does suffer from inheritance disorders. By overlooking the importance of testing parent dogs, breeders fail to produce sound puppies. Consequently, health problems start to occur, which makes owners abandon their dogs.

Breeding is not everything. Beagles should be socialized early to avoid behavioral disorders. This is the task that breeders and owners do not always fulfill. Disobedient dogs turn out to be a nuisance to their owners and those who come into contact with the dogs. To diminish the number of abandoned Beagles, breeders and owners should devote much time to their dogs' socialization and training.

As is reported, many Beagles are found on the streets. Very probably, they have lost their way back home. Beagles are scent hounds that are drawn to various smells easily. Therefore, they need obedience training and much attention when walking. It is true that keeping a Beagle on leash constantly is impossible. The dog should get much exercise, which cannot be supplied by a few short walks on leash. Let your Beagle enjoy a walk, yet watch him carefully.

People willing to help a rescue can adopt a dog. A person should be knowledgeable on the issues of owning the Beagle. Otherwise, rescue members will not allow adoption. Future breed owners are informed on caring and training Beagles and get further assistance with the dogs.
